Learn About Laptop Upgradability

What is it?

The act of upgrading your laptop parts with newer ones to take advantage of newer features and/or more performance. Upgrading can extend the life of your laptop considerably and help save costs. Unfortunately, most modern laptops are becoming less and less upgradable. Here are the main parts that could be upgraded in laptops with their easiness level out of 5 (5 is easiest):

• Memory

  Very easy to upgrade. Make sure it is the same DDR version and DIMM/SO-DIMM type. Memory frequency is usually automatically adjusted to be compatible with the CPU, however, it is better to match the recommended frequency speeds.

• Storage

  Easy to upgrade. Make sure you have the same interface and backup your data before upgrading.

• Network Card

  Easy to upgrade in some laptops. Make sure to re-attach the antennas gently and correctly.
